Carmarthen Town 1 – Haverfordwest County 0

A stunning late goal by Daniel Sheehan earned Carmarthen Town a slender victory over derby rivals Haverfordwest County at Richmond Park.

The Bluebirds played with a lot of pride and passion despite knowing that they will play a tier lower next season.

The Old Gold had a good opportunity to take the lead in the 21st minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Mark Jones blotted his copybook as he skied the spot kick over the crossbar, as it remained goalless at half time.

Screamer

The visitors were put under constant pressure and it wasn’t until the 85th minute that they finally cracked when Sheehan struck a 30-yard screamer to secure the points for the Old Gold outfit.

This result lifts Carmarthen Town up to eighth in the table; they have inferior goal difference to seventh placed Bangor City.

Bounce back

Bluebirds boss Wayne Jones has confessed that his side have not been good enough over the course of the season, but he praised his team for their whole-hearted commitment playing in the top tier of Welsh football. The average age of the squad is 21, and Jones says it’s been a tough learning curve that they will benefit from and he vows that the Bluebirds will try their utmost to bounce straight back to the Welsh Premier next season.

Palmer's milestone

Haverfordwest County midfielder Nicky Palmer became the 46th player to reach the Welsh Premier 300 milestone when he played at Richmond Park on Tuesday night.

Since 2000 Palmer has played for Newport County, Llanelli, Carmarthen Town, Port Talbot Town and two spells with Haverfordwest County to reach this brilliant accolade. Palmer, 34, has scored 31 goals from his 300 (+45) appearances.
