Bangor City 5 – Haverfordwest County 2

This heavy defeat at Bangor City has confirmed that Haverfordwest County are relegated alongside Rhyl from the Welsh Premier League.

The Bluebirds returned stint in the Dafabet WPL was short lived as this result confirmed their relegation back to the Welsh Football League for 2016/17 season, mathematically the Bluebirds can’t catch Port Talbot who are tenth in the table.

Shaun Cavanagh struck to give the Citizens an early seventh minute lead. The homesters doubled their lead when they were awarded a free-kick that right back Declan Walker curled in from 25 yards out.

30-yard screamer

The visitors got back in the clash when defender Spencer Williams scored a terrific 30-yard screamer that flew in to the top right hand corner.

Minutes later, Bangor restored their two-goal cushion when Steve Lewis clipped a delightful chip from the edge of the 18-yard box - the score stood 3-1 in the Citizens’ favour at half time.

After the interval Declan Carroll scored a well-taken goal to get the visitors back in the tussle.

However, minutes later, and Bangor scored again as Shaun Cavanagh rounded Bluebirds’ goalkeeper Alex Connell for the Citizens’ fourth goal.

Then deep in stoppage time Damien Allen scored the Citizens’ fifth goal, sliding home a shot past Connell to seal the Bluebirds’ relegation fate.

This win sees Bangor City move back into seventh position in the Play-Off Conference above Aberystwyth Town by three points.
