Haverfordwest County 1 - Aberystwyth Town 3

Jonathan Evans grabbed a goal in each half to earn Aberystwyth Town a comfortable victory over Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

This was a game that the Bluebirds had targeted to win, but in the final analysis the score line doesn’t lie as they uncomfortably at the bottom of the table while the Seasiders have jumped up to seventh spot.

Early goal

The visitors got off to a flyer, scoring with barely two minutes on the clock. Geoff Kellaway’s cross was met at the far post for an easy Chris Venables opener.

The Bluebirds nearly levelled matters a minute later when Luke Borrelli’s left footed shot skimmed Mike Lewis’ post. Minutes later and luckless Borrelli crashed a shot against the crossbar.

The visitors increased the lead in the 22nd minute, Edwards sweetly striking a wicked shot into the top corner to give the Seasiders a 2-0 cushion at half time.

The Bluebirds pulled a goal back right at the start of the second period, Greg Walters struck an edge of the area stinging volley that keeper Lewis failed to hold on to as the ball crept over the line.

Evans pounces

As the Bluebirds pressed for an equaliser the Seasiders put the result beyond doubt in the 58th minute. Sion James’ shot from distance was parried by keeper Craig Morris and straight into the grateful path of Evans who gleefully smashed home the rebound.

The Bluebirds will need to start winning if they are going to dig themselves out of the Welsh Premier relegation hole.
