Luke Borrelli scored twice to secure a welcome victory for bottom of the table Haverfordwest County at Aberystwyth Town on New Year’s Day.

Borrelli struck a goal in each half and also hit the post to help the Bluebirds to a morale-boosting win at Park Avenue.

The game was all square when Borrelli struck an absolute screamer to win this clash in the 88th minute, as the delighted Bluebirds gained sweet revenge for their defeat against Aber on Boxing Day at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

After losing by one goal at the Bridge Meadow on Boxing Day, the Bluebirds were determined to get something from this clash, and they did.

Deserved lead

The visitors deservedly took the lead on the stroke of half time, Borrelli finishing clinically from inside the box after earlier hitting Mike Lewis’ post.

Bluebirds manager Wayne Jones would have been pleased with his side’s first half performance and would have asked for more of the same in the second.

That’s exactly what happened as the Bluebirds put the Seasiders under pressure, but couldn’t find a way to score a second goal.

All square

Aberystwyth Town skipper Stuart Jones equalised midway through the second period, setting up a tense finale.

And that’s where man of the match Borrelli came up trumps, scoring a screamer with 30-yard winner from a direct free kick, which secured the Bluebirds’ fifth win of an extremely difficult campaign.
