Rhyl 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Goals from Ryan Batley and skipper Dale Griffiths secured a famous win on the road for Haverfordwest County.

The Bluebirds won their first league game of the season last week at home against MBi Llandudno, and this week, they followed up with their first away win in the Welsh Premier at shell shocked Rhyl.

This result was no more than what Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds outfit deserved. They found themselves two goals up at half time and stayed strong for the remainder.

Jones said, “I’m over the moon with this win. Every player in the squad contributed to these brilliant three points. Now we move onto the next game and the squad is growing in confidence.”

Two quick goals

Left back Ryan Batley made no mistake with a penalty to give his side a 15th minute lead, after Kieran Howard was fouled. Ten minutes later skipper Dale Griffiths scored for the second week in a row, bravely headed home Howard’s cross from inside the box.

The visitors were awarded a second penalty in the 50th minute, but this time Batley struck the post - failing to put his side three-up.

Rhyl pulled a goal back in the 56th minute through John Owen, but they could not get the all important equaliser as the visitors secured maximum points in north Wales.
