Haverfordwest County edged this five-goal thriller against fellow Dafabet Welsh Premier opponents Aberystwyth Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
Bluebirds manager Wayne Jones will be delighted with the final outcome, and this positive result will give the Bluebirds a morale boost before the start of the season next Saturday, August 22nd, when they entertain champions TNS, kick off is at 2.30pm.
Ricky Watts went close to opening the scoring early, the right back unleashing a wicked a shot from 25 yards out that flew inches over the crossbar.
Early header
However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 13th minute, a dangerous free-kick into the box saw Chris Venables plant a firm ten yard header into the back of Scott James’ net.
The Bluebirds were put on the back foot but to their credit weathered the storm and hit back when they equalised on the half hour mark through a well taken header by skipper Dale Griffiths.
Quick goals
After the break the Bluebirds pressed strongly and were rewarded with two goals in the space of three minutes. Striker John Roberts who had only been on for nine minutes drilled home his side’s second and then Luke Borrelli drilled in from close range to put his side in control.
The visitors pulled a goal back through substitute Geoff Kellaway in the 65th minute, but the Bluebirds kept their composure to hold out for a thoroughly deserved win that would have pleased everyone involved at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
