Luke Borelli scored the goals that clinched the points for the Bluebirds at Taffs Well
Taffs Well 0 – Haverfordwest County 2
Luke Borelli scored twice to help Haverfordwest County to a rare win at Taffs Well on Friday evening.
This excellent result gave the Bluebirds a glimmer of hope of promotion, and after Saturday they lie third in the table, five points behind leaders Caerau Ely with two games left to play. The Bluebirds will need to gain maximum points and rely on the Cardiff based team slipping up in the run in.
Workmanlike performance
Manager Wayne Jones said, “This was a workmanlike performance. I think this is the first time I’ve come here and actually won.”
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when Steffan Davies assisted Borelli who slotted home from inside the box.
Wellman keeper denied Steffan Williams when he was through in one-on-one situation.
Antonio injured
The Bluebirds lost left back Antonio Facciuto with an injury and Greg Walters slotted in at the back from his midfield role and Chris O’Sullivan came off the bench and took Walters’ position.
Borelli doubled the visitors’ lead when he latched onto a superb 50-yard ball that fell to the front man’s feet and he tucked home for a finish.
Steffan Williams skied a 12-yard shot well over the bar, when he really should have hit the target.
Solid defence
Craig Morris didn’t have a save to make all evening, skipper Dale Griffiths and Sam Rodon were solid at the heart of the defence and the Bluebirds were good value for their three points against the Wellmen.
Haverfordwest County entertain Ton Pentre on Saturday, 25th April in their last home match of the campaign, kick off is at 2.30pm and then on Tuesday, 5th May the Bluebirds travel to Aberdare Town for their last game of the season.
