Goytre 3 – Haverfordwest County 4
Haverfordwest County came away from Gwent with a huge sigh of relief as they won this game by the odd goal in seven at Goytre.
This was the Bluebirds' first victory in their last four outings and as manager Wayne Jones said, “This win gets our promotion hopes back on track.”
Haverfordwest County goalkeeper Craig Morris pulled off a superb save in the 11th minute to prevent Matthew Prosser scoring with a penalty.
However, striker Prosser made amends when he opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, but within two minutes of Goytre taking the lead the visitors equalised, as Luke Borelli broke clear and struck a low shot that flew in the bottom corner.
Steffan Davies' glancing header from Borelli’s cross from the left gave the visitors a slender 2-1 lead in the 30th minute, which they maintained until half time.
Slender half time lead
Ten minutes after the interval Borelli added his side’s third goal, as he made no mistake from the spot.
But midfielder Nicky Palmer was sent off after receiving a second booking for a rash challenge as the Bluebirds went down to ten men.
Craig Moses reduced the deficit as he scored with a direct free kick as Matthew D’Ivry replaced Steffan Davies, and it was the substitute’s foul that led to Josh Bull equalising from the resulting free kick.
Greg strikes winner
However, the visitors grabbed a well-worked fourth goal, man of the match Borelli squaring the ball to Greg Walters, who popped up in the box and coolly slotted the ball in the far corner for the winner.
The visitors could have added a fifth goal but Jordan Follows struck a poor penalty straight at the Goytre goalkeeper Nick Thomas.
Next Saturday, 21st March, Haverfordwest County are away again, this time against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
