Haverfordwest County have moved to the top of thWelsh League Division One table after winning an ill-tempered game at Afan Lido. Both teams finished the game with nine-men, but the Bluebirds came away with the all-important win that sees them go a point clear of Cardiff Met, and the Bluebirds have a game in hand.
Early lead
The visitors took the lead in the 11th minute, Sean Pemberton heading into the back of the net from a corner.
The homesters had two players red-carded and the visitors were awarded a penalty after Jordan Follows was brought down inside the box, and skipper Dale Griffiths made no mistake from the spot.
Minutes before the break and Haverfordwest County were down to ten-men when Luke Borelli was issued a straight red card for pushing an opponent.
The second half was keenly contested as the Bluebirds lost their discipline with Chris O’Sullivan also red carded for a reckless tackle.
Nervous finish
Afan Lido pulled a goal back in the 77th minute when left back Jackson Hall fired a low drive past Craig Morris, but on the night the visitors held their nerve for the remainder to claim the 13th win of the season as they return to the summit.
Haverfordwest County Wayne Jones said: “I’m happy with the win, but I’m definitely not happy that we lost our discipline. Sully and Borelli will automatically miss the next three games through suspension and that will make it tough for us.”
