Pontardawe Town 0 - Haverfordwest County 5

Haverfordwest County cantered to a five-goal salvo against struggling Pontardawe Town to stay a point clear at the top of the table.

This was a game that the visitors knew they had to score goals without conceding as they have in-form Monmouth Town breathing down their necks in second spot.

Proper hiding

Bluebirds’ manager Wayne Jones said he was pleased with the win, but they should have scored more as he said: “We’re are definitely going to give some team in the future a proper hiding, by that I mean we will score double figures. We spurned a hatful of decent chances today.”

The visitors led 4-0 at half time and will be bitterly disappointed they only scored five goals after totally dominating for 90 minutes. Jordan Follows drilled home the opener in the 18th minute and in the next seven minutes Darren Griffiths slotted in the second and Follows was on target with his second. Just before the break Follows’ co-striker Darren Griffiths added a fourth, also his second goal of the match.

One-way traffic

In the second period it was one-way traffic with both Follows and Griffiths missing chances to seal hat-tricks. Skipper Dale Griffiths headed home the fifth after poor Pontardawe failed to clear at a corner.

Greg Walters and Declan Carroll really should have added their names to the score sheet, but goalkeeper Craig Morris will be happy that he kept a clean sheet.

Next Saturday, 27th September, Haverfordwest County face a crunch match at Monmouth Town, the Bluebirds will be really tested against the promotion-seeking Kingfishers.

Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris; Ricky Watts; Sam Rodon; Dale Griffiths (Captain); Antonio Facciuto; Chris O’Sullivan; Sean Pemberton; Nicky Palmer; Declan Carroll; Jordan Follows; Dale Griffiths. Substitutes: Jack Britton; Lewis Holder; Sam Wilson; Greg Walters; Dan Evans.
