Garden Village 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Super substitute Sam Wilson bagged an 88th minute winner that earned Haverfordwest County a hard fought victory at Garden Village.

With the game heading for a draw and the rain lashing down and strong winds hampered play, Nicky Palmer threaded a clever through ball into the path of Wilson, he composed himseld and struck a low shot from 25-yards out into the far right-hand corner, the goal secured the precious points for the visitors.

This result sees Haverfordwest County move two points clear at the top of the table following this hard fought victory. Territorially the visitors dominated the first half hour, but Jordan Follows and Darren Griffiths could not find a way past a stubborn Village defence.

Goal down

Against the run of play the visitors led 1-0 at half time, a good cross in the box fell to Ashley Curtis, who controlled with his chest and fired a shot past Craig Morris.

Haverfordwest County lost centre back Sam Rodon due to foot injury, and manager Wayne Jones brought on Sam Wilson, and he moved Sean Pemberton from midfield to partner skipper Dale Griffiths in the heart of the defence.

Fight back

Barely two minutes after the break and the visitors equalised, some excellent approach play led to Jack Britton striking a 28-yard belter that flew into the net despite keeper Liam Martin getting a hand to it.

The visitors controlled the second period, as they changed to a 4-3-3 formation, and battled hard until they finally got their break two minutes from full time when Wilson struck the winner.

Haverfordwest County travel to Caerau Ely, this Saturday, and they will have a tough job on their hands, playing on a tight pitch in the capital.
