Aberbargoed Buds 1 – Haverfordwest County 4

Luke Borelli scored twice to earn Haverfordwest County a thoroughly deserved victory at Aberbargoed Buds in their final Welsh League Division One game of the season.

Buds currently sit second from bottom with one more game to play while the Bluebirds sit fourth and if Goytre win their last game against Tata Steel they will finish above them.

The visitors dominated possession, territory and were well worth their 2-0 cushion at half time.

Borelli opens scoring

Borelli opened the scoring in the 18th minute, latching onto a clever Steffan Williams pass before unleashing a low drive from 18 yards into the far corner.

Williams added the second in the 36th minute, again some neat build up ended with the striker making no mistake from inside the box.

Teenagers Laurie Haworth and Liam Fawcett both had decent displays and giving food for thought for Bluebirds manager Wayne Jones who will be looking to strengthen the squad next season.

Eight minutes after the interval and the visitors scored their third goal of the afternoon, striker Tim Hicks guiding home a header from a Chris O’Sullivan corner.

Long hard season

Richard Evans pulled a goal back for Buds, but the visitors had the final say as Borelli pounced from inside the 18-yard area for the fourth and ended the Bluebirds mixed-bag of a season.

County manager Wayne Jones said, “We could have and should have scored a few more goals, but at the end of the day I’m happy we finished a long hard season with a victory.”
