Craig Jones’ injury time equaliser deservedly earned Pontardawe Town a draw at home to  a stuttering Haverfordwest County.

Bluebirds’ manager Wayne Jones was bitterly disappointed that his team did not hang on for the all-important win, and as a result have slipped to just a point ahead of Monmouth Town, who have two games in hand, and Taffs Well.

Unlucky

The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead midway through the first half when centre back Sam Rodon’s header from a Chris O’Sullivan corner was saved when it had goal written all over it.

The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute when Jack Britton pounced at the far post with a header.

The goal involved the three substitutes; Ben Steele fed Luke Borelli and his cross found Britton unmarked at the far post for an easy finish.

Vital scoring touch

But deep in injury time Pontardawe Town hit the Bluebirds on the counter attack and it finished with Jones getting the vital scoring touch.

The visitors could have snatched victory straight after the equaliser but Declan Carroll’s goal bound shot was somehow blocked as it finished all square.

The Bluebirds travel to nearest rivals Monmouth Town, whom they beat 3-2 at home, on Wednesday, 2nd April and it’s a game they have to win if they are going to keep their title dreams alive.

Haverfordwest County: Craig Morris; Ricky Watts, Sam Rodon; Dale Griffiths (Captain); Antonio Faccuito; Chris O’Sullivan; Dylan Blain; Steffan Williams, Declan Carroll; Joe Leahy; Richie Lewis. Substitutes: Ben Steele; Luke Borelli; Jack Britton.
