Cambrian & Clydach 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Two goals in the first half sealed Haverfordwest County's  important victory over fellow title Welsh League Division One rivals Cambrian & Clydach.

This was a game that Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds had to claim three points if they are going to continue to be realistic challengers for the title. This win has seen the visitors rise to the top of the table with nine games to go – six of their matches are away, but they have been impressive on the road.

Important strikes

Steffan Williams and Ritchie Lewis scored in the 21st and 37th minutes to put themselves in a good position at half time.

The hosts pulled back a late goal but on the evidence of this performance the visitors were extremely good value for their 13th win of the season from 21 outings.

Williams bagged the opener as he broke clear and drilled in hard and low from 18 yards out. Lewis added his side’s second with a brilliant left foot strike that flew in the top corner.  The goal stemmed from a wicked Chris O’Sullivan corner that caused mayhem inside the box and Lewis benefited with his super strike.

Solid at back

Sam Roden and Dale Griffiths both had solid games in the heart of the defence for the visitors and were well supported by defenders Antonio Faccuito and Ricky Watts. O’Sullivan had a fine game in the middle of midfield, working tirelessly alongside Declan Carroll and spreading some exquisite balls forward that constantly put the home side under pressure and on the back foot.

The only downside of the Bluebirds' terrific afternoon was midfielders Sean Pemberton and Luke Borrelli - both picking up worrying ankle injuries. Substitute Joe Leahy was unlucky not to add a third goal when his excellent header from inside the box crashed against the bar.

This Friday, March 14 Haverfordwest County entertain Goytre United at the Conygar Bridge Meadow, kick-off is at 7.30pm – why not go along and support the title-chasing Bluebirds!
