Haverfordwest County 3 – Goytre 0

This was a confident display by the Bluebirds who ran out comfortable three-goal victors against Goytre at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.Bluebirds are back on song with a cracking win

Earlier games in the season, the homesters have struggled to dominate against teams in and around them in the table, but the manner of this victory was a sweet one.

Goals by Ritchie Lewis, Sam Rodon and Declan Carroll have lifted the Bluebirds into second spot, a point behind new leaders Cambrian & Clydach, who scraped a 0-1 victory at second from bottom Tata Steel. The surprise result of the afternoon was leaders Taffs Wells losing 2-1 at third from bottom Cwmbran Celtic. They have slipped down to third.

Lewis opened the scoring in the ninth minute, Carroll’s  intelligent chip over the top saw the wide-sided midfielder make no mistake with a low fierce left foot drive that easily went beyond the reach of  keeper Nick Thomas.

Rodon doubled the lead after Jack Britton’s inviting free-kick in the box in the 28th minute, saw the centre back leap like a salmon out of high waters and firmly headed into the back of the net.

The Bluebirds were unlucky not to add further goals as Lewis flashed a shot just inches wide and Williams’s low drive hit the post as the score stayed at 2-0 at half time.

Superb goal

Four minutes after the interval and man-of-the-match Carroll scored a superb goal. The midfielder looked up and saw keeper Thomas off his line, then sublimely chipped him from at least 20-yards out.

Tim Hicks fired a shot over the crossbar as the Bluebirds continued to press and substitute Joe Leahy had a shot blocked at close range.

Vital clearance

Left back Antonio Faccuito cleared a header off the line right at the death, that was the visitors’ best scoring chance, but more importantly the homesters have kept a clean sheet that would have pleased manager Wayne Jones.
