MacWhirter Welsh League Division 1

Caerau (Ely) 1 - Haverfordwest County 1

Rob scores with late volley to earn Bluebirds a draw
Substitute Rob Morgans’ late equaliser earned a point for Haverfordwest County in a hard fought encounter at Caerau.

Before this fixture the Bluebirds were the league leaders and Caerau were fourth in the table.

The visitors were well on top in the first period as Steffan Williams, Jack Christopher and Sam Roden were guilty of not taking their chances when presented to them in front of goal.

Smith scores

However, the homesters took the lead through Andy Smith ten minutes before half-time.

The second-half followed a similar pattern as the visitors were frustrated by some poor finishing, following some intricate build-up play.

Constant thorn

Former Bluebird Tyrell Webb was a constant thorn in the Bluebirds’ defence and County’s keeper Chris Curtis pulled off two fantastic saves to deny the lively front man.

Ten minutes from full time and Morgans struck with a vicious volley from 12-yards that was teed-up from the right wing by Christopher and earned his side a draw.

Next Saturday, Haverfordwest County entertain Tata Steel at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium, kick-off is at 2.30pm.
