Haverfordwest County 2 - Pontardawe Town 0

Haverfordwest County deservedly overcame Pontardawe Town on the Conygar Bridge Meadow and kept their 100% winning record intact on Wednesday night.

If early league form is anything to go by then the Bluebirds squad looks a strong one, with a good balance, and the passing and movement was excellent and constantly caused the visitors problems all night.

A goal in each half was enough for the Bluebirds to secure three points with Sean Pemberton scoring his seBluebirds stroll to second victory on the trotcond header in a row alongside a far post strike by Dylan Blain.

Powerful header

Pemberton opened the scoring with a powerful header from inside the box in the 13th minute. A cross from the right by Ritchie Lewis was met perfectly to give the Bluebirds a deserved lead.

Ritchie Lewis caused problems down the left wing and he combined brilliantly with defender Antonio Fuccuito, as the pair caused chaos.

Central midfielder Blain tried an ambitious 30 yard shot that went harmlessly passed Steve Reeve’s right hand post.

Striker Joey Leahy failed by inches with his head to latch onto a hard cross by Williams, had he connected it could have extended the Bluebirds lead.

Just before half time and Leahy was clean through at goal, but tamely struck his shot straight at Reeve.

Nine minutes after half time and the Bluebirds increased their lead with a well worked goal scored by Blain at the far post.

Red card

The visitors’ frustration saw them down to ten men when Tom Grey was issued a straight red card in the 59th minute, with the midfielder needlessly kicking out at Bluebirds substitute Rob Morgans. The homesters failed to score after the sending off, but nonetheless, it was an excellent result and gives the Bluebirds camp plenty of optimism for the season ahead.
