Vikings beat Swifts in entertaining clash
Hakin United 2 – Monkton Swifts 0
Hakin United came out on top in the game rightly billed as the ‘Match of the Day’ against battling Monkton Swifts in a highly entertaining clash at the Obs.
In an end-to-end tussle it was Scott Davies’ Vikings who edged a tight battle against Stuart James’ Swifts, who can count themselves unlucky that they came away from an exciting game with nothing.
The hosts opened the scoring a sublime 20 yard left footed free kick which beat the Swifts’ outstretched goalkeeper Tyler Gullam which gave the Vikings a slender one goal lead at half time.
However, after the break the visitors piled on the pressure with Tom Dyson, Dylan Davies and the silky skills of Declan Carroll causing problems for the Vikings defence consisting of Kieran King, Jake Merry, Jay Power and Camron Thomas.
Jake Merry received a nasty cut to his head and was replaced by Matthew Broome in the Vikings’ defence, goalkeeper Rory Williams also pulled off some excellent saves to deny the visitors.
Ashley Bevan and Fletcher Picton both came on and looked dangerous for Hakin, the later flashed a low left footed drive agonisingly wide of Gullam’s left hand post.
Carroll came extremely close to levelling matters when his wicked 25 yard free kick crashed against Williams’ crossbar also following a goalmouth scramble Jay Power cleared the danger off the goal line.
