Perrins pounces to seal Young Otters’ success

 

 

Narberth Youth 15 - Crymych Youth 11

 
On Saturday, Narberth Youth hosted rivals Crymych in a league and cup quarter-final double header and it was The Young Otters who grabbed a last-minute score to take the joint honours.
 
All encounters between these sides have been thunderous affairs over the years as they progressed through the age groups and this one proved no different. In difficult conditions, with a cold wind and squally showers, both sets of players gave their all in a tightly-contested thriller that was enjoyed by a vociferous and supportive crowd..
 
First on the scoreboard was Crymych after a storming run from their outstanding no 8 Iestyn Wood. He crashed through several tackles before going over wide out. That was the only score in the first half and Crymych were quickly out of the blocks in the second half with a well struck penalty from Owain Davies.
 
Narberth responded with a penalty from full back Jack Perrins and then appeared to take control of the game with a try from rampaging prop Joel Davies, converted by Perrins.
 
However with a rare foray into Narberth territory Crymych were awarded a penalty which was slotted over by Owain Davies. It looked as if Narberth had blown their chances but with time running out they attacked again with a fine set of rucks followed by slick handling putting Jack Perrins over for the winning try and a final score line of 15-11 to Narberth.
 
Crymych captain Iestyn Wood had another impressive game to be his team’s man of the match and for Narberth Joel Davies had a brilliant game alongside the indestructible Yori Morgan, and their man of the match went to the hard-running James Morgan.
