Pembrokeshire Youth Cup Final:
Haverfordwest compete a deserved double but the Young Otters battled all the way
Haverfordwest Youth 54 - Narberth Youth 24
Referee: Dyfrig Dellar
Assistants: Geraint Morgan & Paddy Byrne
The final between Haverfordwest Youth and their counterparts from Narberth saw the Young Blues complete the league and youth cup double and they were always on top after taking an early 14-0 lead through No 8 Kieran Harries and scrum half Alfie Thomas, both converted by Rio Phillips.
But The Young Otters showed the commitment asked for by coach Jason Jennings as they struck back with a corner try from Ashton O’Riorden after Sam Morris and Owen Woof created the space in the left corner.
Then Harries, who was outstanding up front alongside skipper Iori Curtis, Logun Young and Zac Shaw, added his second score and Phillips converted – and Young was involved in the fourth try as Haverfordwest were 28-5 ahead at the interval.
Left winger Harry Lawrence claimed try No 5, and Phillips made it a fifth conversion on the trot – but was finally off target Harries grabbed his third try in an all-action performance.
One of the loudest cheers of the afternoon was reserved for a Narberth try by No 8 Callum Goeman and after prop Cruz Findlay and Young scored Blues’ tries there was a late brace for Narberth by Charlie Reynolds as reward for his hard work at hooker – with one converted by outside half Gethin Llewellin that made the final scoreline more respectable but there is no doubt that Steve Parry’s young charges have been the outstanding squad this season as joint captains Iori Curtis and Devin Williams received the Youth Cup from Delyth Simmons, the District H representative on the WRU.

Pembrokeshire Youth Plate Final:
Seasiders sparkle in power performance
Crymych Youth 6 - Tenby United 57
Referee: Edward Howells
Assistants: Paul Tedaldi & Shane Abbott
Tenby United Youth produced a display of technical excellence, solid defence and raw finishing power that completely dominated this plate final, which was always expected to be a very tight tussle between them and a talented and committed Crymych squad that might have even started as slight favourites after the league outings between them.
And that is the way it seemed it would go midway through the first period as Crymych led 6-5 but then The Young Seasiders exploded into action and were already 26-6 ahead at the interval before adding two excellent scores straight afterwards to kill off Crymych hopes as they never stopped battling away but faced a trio of match winners for Tenby.
Inspirational skipper Iwan Duffy, whose work rate as hooker was immense, outside half Madoc Evans, who kicked superbly and called the shots as his pack won quality possession – and powerhouse centre Kodi Bratcher, who opened the scoring with a solo run up the left touchline and added two more, one from near his own line for the try of the game.
But it was anything but a three-player performance because everyone else rose to the occasion and referee Howells had to call a halt early once Tenby held a lead of 50 points.
For Crymych, skipper Deian James, flanker Harri Thomas, No 8 Delme Alleyne, winger Ifan James and No 9 Gareth Bryan led their rearguard action and they were perhaps unlucky that on the day they didn’t produce their best as the opposition certainly did.
After Scotcher’s early try Crymych gained a lengthy platform in attack and they went close via Sior Phillips, George Nelson, Geraint Thomas and Aled Morris – but they loss possession at key times as Tenby defended well and all they had to show for that period was two good penalties by outside half Owain Evans.
The Young Seasiders reclaimed a lead they were not to lose again after a Duffy charge down the middle set the stage and Madoc Evans’ clever chip ahead saw him win the race for a try he also converted – and then the No 10 had a slightly more fortuitous second try after a Crymych clearance attempt struck his knee and again he was first to react before adding the extra points with an excellent conversion.
Then Bratcher ended the half as he started when Crymych failed to collect an attacking throw in deep in Tenby territory and he brushed aside a couple of weak tackles to power his way to the try line – almost 80 metres away - and Evans converted.
Worse was to follow for Crymych after the interval as skipper Duffy ploughed over after good work by Alfie Brown, Lewis Rossiter, Cemlyn Bolton and Rocco Fernandez, with scrum half Alfie Luger grabbing an opportunist solo try from almost half way after good work by the back row of Jayden Allen, Joe Davies and George Duckett before Evans converted. and then Bratcher claimed a deserved hat-trick with another searing run for Evans to convert.
By this time, it was clearly hard-going for Crymych and Tom Youngs added a brace of tries, one converted by Evans, set see the game end early so that skipper Duffy and his marauding Young Seasiders could receive the Plate trophy from Charles Davies, the president of Haverfordwest RFC.
