South Wales Cricket Association (163 all out) lost to Pembroke County Cricket Club (167 for 6) by 4 wickets
Scorer: John Laugharne (Neyland)
Venue: Tir Dref, Llandysul
The talented young cricketers chosen to represent the Pembroke County Cricket Club in what has become an annual match against the South Wales Cricket Association produced an outstanding performance to win by four wickets in Llandysul.
Superbly led by Neyland skipper Sean Hannon, playing only his second game for the county but leading by example with four neat stumpings and a catch, only Simon Holliday was over 30 and the Kilgetty trio of Ross Hardy, Kurtis and Kyle Marsh showed why their club is favourite for promotion.
Hardy struck a typically robust 33 (6 fours) and claimed 1 for 30 in eight accurate overs, Kyle Marsh took two great catches and fielded well after coming in at short notice, whilst brother Kurtis bowled his leg spin well and hit the boundary that took Pembrokeshire to deserved victory.
Iestyn Scourfield (1 for 17) and Nick Koomen (2 for 22) were the other county wicket-takers alongside the irrepressible Holliday, who made up for his early departure when batting with an excellent 4 for 29 haul from his left-arm slow stuff, aided and abetted with all of them by skipper Hannon’s good glove work.
South Wales CA’s skipper Steffan Davies (Clydach) led his team’s batting with a cracking innings of 70 whilst former Whitland player Steff James supported with 27 alongside double figures from James Garland and Joe Farthing before the home side were dismissed from the final ball of their allotted 40 overs.
After Holliday’s departure for just a single Matthew Morgan and Ashley Sutton set about repairing the damage before Morgan was adjudged lbw for 23.
Sutton stroked six boundaries in his cracking 57 alongside Iwan Izzard (18) and the irrepressible Hardy and although the county lost Koomen cheaply it was left to Brad McDermott-Jenkins and Kurtis Marsh to take their side to deserved victory with two overs left.
