West Wales Women’s and Girls’ Football Festival
(Played at Penygaer Playing Fields, Llanelli)
Camrose Ladies enjoyed a day to remember in winning the Senior Section competition as the West Wales Women’s and Girls’ and Pembrokeshire Girls’ League, with support from the Welsh Football Trust and West Wales FA, recently hosted a first-ever Women’s and Girls’ football festival at Penygaer Playing Fields, Llanelli.
Several Pembrokeshire clubs entered, including Camrose, Narberth, Johnston, Tenby and Fishguard Sports - and the event was launched by Swansea City and Newcastle Emlyn Ladies playing an exhibition match, both of whom play in the Welsh Premier Women’s League. Newcastle Emlyn Ladies were victorious by two goals to one and eventually played some of the senior teams in the competition on a friendly basis.
Huge success
The festival was a huge success with 31 teams having taken part. The under 10’s and 12 age groups played on a round-robin basis with all players receiving medals. The under 14s, 16s and senior age groups were played on a competitive basis with the eventual runners up and winners being as follows:
U 14’s winners: Dafen B. Runners up: Dafen A.
U 16’s winners: Dafen. Runners Up: Cimla.
Ladies winners: Camrose. Runners Up: Cimla.
In attendance also was Shanelle Edwards and Tarian . Shanelle is one of the FAW Ambassadors to the U 19’s EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS that are coming to West Wales in August 2013 and Tarian is the mascot for the championships.
