Borderettes deservedly bag Plate trophy

Whitland Ladies

WRU Women's Super-Cup Plate final:

Whitland Ladies 59 - Seven Sisters Ladies 29

Whitland Ladies finished a long season with silverware as they secured the Women's Super-Cup Plate with a great team display against Seven Sisters.

Despite a long trip to Bedwas RFC, there was no sign of any ring rust as The Borderettes started strongly - with centre Katie Thicker rounding off some good handling for a try that No 10 Lleucu George converted.

The pressure continued as Marged Williams benefitted from an overlap to score, and then struck again after a move which started inside the Whitland 22.

A long miss pass from George then led to a fourth try, from Megan Davies out wide, and George converted.

Whitland keep the pressure on

Seven Sisters did respond with a converted score but winger Davies got her second try and then from the kick off that followed, Jenny Hawkins burst upfield and powered to the line for George to convert.

The Neath-based side crossed again to bring it back to 38-12 but both Thicker and then Hawkins scored from quickly-taken penalties - and each time George converted.

To the credit of Seven Sisters they kept going and grabbed three more tries, put the points continued to flow at the other end, with George crossing the whitewash and converting for a personal haul of 19 points.
It meant The Borderettes re-captured the Plate they last won in 2012, to round off a good season under coach Nico Setaro and team manager Sue Davies.
