2024 Ladies' Cricket - Week One
Division One:
Burton (123 for 4) beat Pembroke (61 all out) by 62 runs
Umpires: Steve Durston & Will Ridge
Scorers: Luke Butler & Diane Morris
Burton got their new season off to a flying start as good performances by the Scales’ trio helped them on their way.
Finola and Elaine both retired on 26 and Llawella chipped in with 17 as Zoe Brick was the other in-form batter with 23 so they set a challenging target despite useful bowling by Jodie Lewis 2 for 22.
Pembroke had solid innings from Bobby Neale (16) and Jodie Lewis (12) but Burton bowlers kept things tight and there was some excellent work in the field as Lily Thomas (3 for 10), Zoe Brick (3 for 7) and Llawella Scale (2 for 7) were the key Burton bowlers.
Division Two:
Pembroke Dock (108 for 2) beat Carew (78 for 3) by 30 runs
Umpires: Nick Daley & Robbie Hicks
Scorers: Peter Kingdom & Sarah Benbow
Pembroke Dock’s three-figure score owed much to Katie Griffiths (25 not out) and Carys Lloyd (28 not out) against useful bowling by Jess Griffiths (2 for 5) and Carew responded with 19 not out from Kirsty Lewis as they finished 31 runs short of victory but with seven wickets left.
Cheryl Hughes (1 for 18), Lana Jones (1 for 14) were joined in the Dock bowling attack by Martha Bhari, who claimed 1 for 20 in her first senior match as the Dock eased home as their reward.
Kilgetty (99 for 3) tied with Saundersfoot (99 for 7)
Umpires: Micky Marsh & Chris Parker
Scorers: Corey Richards & Roger Stanford
Saundersfoot Ladies played their first game of league cricket for a while after a practice session on the beach and one on the field before entertaining visitors Kilgetty in an exciting game which ended up with a tie as Kilgetty reached 99 for 3 and The Seasiders replied with exactly the same score, but having lost seven wickets.
Kilgetty had the majority of their runs from extras as Lois Hughes marked her debut for the club with top score before Saundersfoot responded with excellent knocks from Madi Neye (28 not out) and Charlotte Lord (18 not out) against before things ended up all square!
The game was played in an excellent spirit and all the players and officials were treated to Sausage and chips, curtesy of Saundersfoot Sports club!
**The other game planned, between St Ishmaels and Whitland was rained off.**
