JD Player Welsh Cup Round 3
Haverfordwest County 0 – Airbus UK 2
Second half goals by Ryan Wignall and Chris Budrys secured Airbus UK’s passage into the third round of the JD Player Welsh Cup at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.
After a goalless first period Wignall opened the scoring and striker Budrys followed up with a far post header to secure the visitors cup passage into round four.
Haverfordwest with the wind at their backs went closest in the opening exchanges as Nicky Palmer’s speculative cross almost fooled Airbus keeper James Coates.
Greg Walters’ midfield industry earned the Bluebirds a platform where Jordan Follows squared the ball across goal and keeper Coates managed to smother the danger.
With the wind making the ball difficult to control, Follows was shown a yellow card for a dive in the box – and after 30 minutes there had still been no semblance of a real chance.
Wade goes close
The Wingmen’s first chance came when Ryan Wade’s wicked cross was safely gathered by Bluebirds’ keeper Craig Morris at his far post – and Morris repeated the process a second time under pressure from Welsh Premier top scorer Tony Gray.
Rodon headed over the bar at the other end form a Kieran Howard corner, leaving the score line still blank at the halfway stage.
Haverfordwest had an early chance after the break as Follows threaded a pass to Craig Moses, but keeper Coates blocked his shot.
Kieran Howard missed a sitter for the Bluebirds; the midfielder hurried his shot from inside the box, when a little more composure was required as the ball went wide of Coates’ right hand post.
Morris did well to save a drive by Airbus’ James Owen, who also had a shot deflected wide of the far post as the visitors began to exert pressure.
A stinging shot from Gray beat Morris but rapped the woodwork and was scrambled clear.
Wignall scores
The goal finally arrived after 67th minute, when a diagonal cross-evaded young left back Spencer Williams, a neat touch by Ryan Wignall put him in the clear, so he touched the ball past the despairing Morris.
The Wingmen added a second goal in the 76
th minute, striker Chris Budrys headed home a Wignall cross at the far post to seal a thoroughly deserved win
