Haverfordwest’s third team completed a marvelous weekend for the club as their comfortable win over their counterparts from Whitland followed success the two days previously for the first and youth teams.
They had the game almost done and dusted by the tea interval as they established a huge first-innings lead of 82 runs and although Whitland were forced to chase an improbable target of 235 runs batting fourth they showed real grit in building a decent score.
Town batters take a heavy toll
After being asked to bat first, Haverfordwest's strong batting line-up took a heavy toll of the Whitland bowlers, with Paul Tough (19) and Josh Hicks putting on 46 before Tough was bowled by talented teenager Gethin Scourfield, having belted two big sixes.

Josh Hicks was effective as an opener, smashing a six and three fours before being deceived by a Scourfield slow ball having made a significant contribution of 32 runs.
But the arrival of veteran run-getter Richard Scriven increased the tempo as he punished anything short and had assistance from Dan Field until the latter was run out by some sharp fielding by bowler Gwynne Phillips for 13.
Max Rodriguez also grabbed a few late runs but it was Scriven, who had seven fours and two mighty sixes, who took Haverfordwest to a commanding total with an unbeaten 58.
Warren starts the Whitland batting demise

Whitland needed a good start if they were to chase down such a big score but they found The Town bowlers able to bowl straight and keep the ball pitched up, taking wickets as the opposition tried to maintain a steady tempo.
Warren Evans started the rot as he clean bowled Jack Richards and then had Colin John caught behind, followed by the key wicket of Daf Evans, well caught by Dan Field, to return excellent figures of 3 for 22.
Owen Jones removed Paul Oeppen at the other end for 11 runs and Dewi Davies swept his way to double figures but Haverfordwest skipper Matthew Vaughan bowled really well up the slope to grab 4 for 13 from his five overs, one of them a maiden.
Then Filgi Varghese finished the remaining batsmen off in his 2 for 15 spell and Whitland were dismissed for 65 with one ball left of their allotted 20 overs - 82 runs adrift at tea time!
Town batting builds up another useful score

Whitland were clearly in need of quick wickets after the break but they didn't come quickly enough as Josh Hicks struck three boundaries in his 18 alongside Paul Tough (four fours and a six in his 35), who became one of Gwynne Phillips' three victims in quick succession as Jake Merry and Richard Scriven departed cheaply.
But The Town still managed 65 at the halfway stage of their innings and stayed in control as Dan Field scored 25 before he was run out and after starting his innings with a big six Max Rodriguez clouted two more deliveries straight over the fence in his aggressive 32 that helped Haverfordwest manage another big score of 152 for 7 - to leave Whitland with a mountainous challenge of needing to score 235 runs for an unlikely victory!
Daf does his best with some big hitting

Jack Richards departed early in the Whitland second innings but solid knocks by Paul Oeppen (five fours in his 29) and Colin John (17) set the platform for Daf Evans to launch an attack with four big sixes into the rugby field in his speedy 42 but then he went for a maximum too many and was bowled by Filgi Varghese.
Whitland skipper Mark Lee also chipped in with a late 23 runs as the wickets were shared amongst The Town bowlers and after the match Richard Scriven was chosen by Paul Harries as man of the match.
Ken Morris’s three sons, Richard, Paul and Gregg were in attendance alongside his grandsons and the presentations were conducted by Richard Howell, who does so much to keep this competition the success it is. He rightly praised groundsmen Chris Richards and Fred Jenkins for producing a ground in immaculate condition, plus Emma Richards, Rhian and Heather Howell for providing a terrific tea!
