The People Who Count - Part 7 - September 2025

PembrokeshireSport.co.uk  is very proud of our unrivalled coverage of local cricket but readily admit that a huge factor in such blanket coverage relies on fantastic support from wonderful scorers in a range of clubs who supply us with scores and other match details - and that is why we gratefully dub them:
THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT!

Interestingly, the majority of them started because their husbands and/or children were involved - and they have now extended their expertise to such a level that they also spread the score lines nationwide on the ‘Play-Live Cricket’ app, whilst the fellers involved tend to rely more on their scorebooks - but still take pride in making them look like works of art!

Over the past couple of weeks, we have tried to mention as many as possible, and complete our tribute to some who are equally as important as the first we mentioned– and to all of them, old and young, we say a huge thank you for your unswerving support – AND WE SINCERELY HOPE WE SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT SEASON!

Sara Jeffrey (Llangwm)19. Sara Jeffrey (Llangwm)

Sara Jeffrey has been a cricket lover for as long as she can remember cricket and had scored years ago in Buckinghamshire before moving to Pembrokeshire and taking up residence in Llangwm village, as the next-door neighbor to Mrs Brick, Janice not only roped her in to share the Saturday afternoon duties in the scorebox but Sara also volunteered to become the club’s Hon Secretary!

Sara has now taken over the role full time and doubles up by scoring for the village ladies’ team whenever she can.

She has a very good rapport with the players of both sexes, who appreciate her knowledge of the game – and we can safely say that she is already an asset to Llangwm Cricket Club.

Nicola Murray (Pembroke Dock)20. Nicola Murray (Pembroke Dock)

Nicola has been involved as scorer at Imble Lane for 16 years now and is a terrific help in supplying information during games – and is adept at also furnishing this site with any interesting little incidents that happen during a match.

She has also played for the ladies team but readily admits that she doesn’t bowl and is not the best batter – but enjoys fielding and the social side afterwards!

She is totally committed to the club and even played twice last season for the men’s second team – and is delighted that son Noah (9), who plays at Imble Lane, has just taken part in trials for a Cricket Wales trial.

Russell Parry-Jones (Fishguard and Goodwick)21. Russell Parry-Jones (Fishguard & Goodwick)

Russell is the club’s Hon Secretary as well as taking on the role of scorer since the club’s rebirth at Tregroes, the home of Fishguard Sports AFC, and everyone involved, including veteran batsman Nigel Delaney, would say what an asset he is, especially with his encouragement to youngsters taking part.

He used to play rugby for Fishguard & Goodwick on The Moors and also played his cricket there as a reliable opening bat – and with chairman Matthew ‘Minty’ Lamb was one of the main factors in the club’s restart – and consequent successes.
