Dillon’s doing really well at Herbie and Hakin

 

15-year-old Dillon Lewis is one of the new breed of talented young players who are beginning to make their mark at Herbrandston Cricket Club, but he is also a regular player in the successful Hakin United AFC under 16s team that is doing well locally and in their age group for the West Wales Cup - and already hitting 180s as a member of the Milford Haven RFC darts team!

 
That Dillon should be heavily involved with Herbie is no surprise, and he is also a regular in their indoor teams, where he was No 1 in organiser Patrick Hannon’s chart for the divisional fielding and catching.
 

Not content with that feat he also bowled really well and was the only bowler to achieve maiden overs in successive games - but when we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk praised him for that special feat we were our usual jinx because the next week he was slammed for 31 runs in only two overs!






 

Family matters . . .

 




Like a lot of cricketers, Dillon started out playing in the back garden, with dad Jonny, who is skipper of Herbrandston Seconds and is a well-known player and coach with the club, plus mum Clarissa, who hails from the Stephens’ cricketing family in the old Marloes team, and she is rightly recognised as one of the most organised scorers in our local game.

 
Dillon played cricket at county level throughout his younger years but has stopped playing in the regional squad because of the heavy load, not only in playing terms but attending the training sessions, which mean a lot more travel.


 

Gaining first-team experience and bowling really well for the seconds

 

It is good to report that Dillon has already turned out for eight matches with Herbie’s first Xl in the 2025 campaign but perhaps better for his development has been his performances in the seconds, where dad Johnny is captain, because he has opened the bowling for them and he came second in the averages to veteran bowler Mark Hicks, just one wicket behind but having played those eight games fewer. He has also scored a few runs too and has moved up the order as recognition of that fact.

 

A footballing ‘Viking’ from an early age

 
On the football front he has played at full back for years in his age group team at The Obs, with Tristan Carlson as main coach throughout out that time, ably assisted by Adrian ‘Boo-Boo’ Hutchins and Nathan John.

 They have always done reasonably well but under Tristan’s guidance they have plated really ell to sit proudly at the top of the table with nine wins in as many matches. With a 3-2 win over closest rivals Goodwick United at Phoenix Park and a 4-0 home victory - and waiting to hear the quarter-final draw for their next opponents in the West Wales Cup.

 

Darts is good fun – and he’s doing well!

 

On the darts front he plays in the same team as his father and footballer Shane Walsh on a Friday evening in the Milford Haven Darts League, where the format comprises five singles, one doubles and one triples - and they are currently third in the table.
 

Dad Johnny has to admit that Dillon is a far better darts player, although will never admit it in front of his son - but the stats are there for all to see!

So, it is clear to see that Dillon Lewis is clearly enjoying his sport and it is good to report that he plays with a quiet assurance and is a good advert for his cricket and football as his main sports.
