James is a real star in the boxing ring!

 
This month's award of our special 'Star of the Month' has been delayed because the recipient has spent a fair bit of time outside the country representing Wales in the Commonwealth Youth Games, where he came very close to a gold medal in his boxing weight category but after enduring the wrong end of a split decision had to settle for the silver medal, which was nonetheless a wonderful achievement in its own right.
 
James Probert was the only medal winner in the six-man Welsh boxing squad and after comfortably beating several opponents the opponent in the opposite corner was a very good Indian exponent of the Noble Art - but several independent onlookers told the Welsh camp that James had looked good value for victory but lost the judges'  vote by 3-2!

Watching on, as ever, were his parents Nathan and Rachel, who have been there for him in countries as far afield as most of Eastern Europe, America and now The Bahamas.
 
Nathan, a former Welsh international himself in his younger days, has coached James since he was an eight year old and is full of praise for his son's efforts as a multi-Welsh and British title holder over the years.
 
James, who has been ranked as highly as third in the world, has decided on a rest until after Christmas and then will be back in action in his attempts to further enhance his reputation as one to watch for the future.
 

Aiming high in the future

 
He would eventually like to compete in an Olympic Games and then turn professional and if he maintains his current rate of progress then we are confident that he can go far in boxing.
 
We wish James Probert every success because he is a credit to his parents; family, Pembrokeshire and Wales - and we are honoured to present him with our 'Star of the Month' award for October 2017.
