Talented Sporting Youngsters Feature - George Twigg
George Twigg hails from Portfield Gate, Haverfordwest and is involved in several sports, although he might list cricket as his favourite since he has played for Haverfordwest as a junior and this season has shown his growing maturity in the game by playing senior cricket for Johnston in the second division of the Pembrokeshire League . . .
Hockey is also another sport in which he is playing well . . .
No 7 George Twigg
Age 14
Clubs:
Haverfordwest Juniors/Johnston Seniors, plus Ysgol Caer Elen
People who have helped me in cricket:
My dad Jonathan, Simon Williams & Pembrokeshire/West Wales coaches. Mu mum Suzanne has also been great in taking me to play sport – and never complains!
Proud moments:
Three consecutive Semi-Finals appearances for U15’s/U13’s
In my third game at senior level, with Johnston, I bowled against Carew 2nds and claimed two wickets for only one run. I also had a three-wicket haul and in local cricket my highest score is 33 – and 53 not out when Ysgol Caer Elin played a team in Cardiff.
Other Sports:
Rugby, football and hockey. I have played prop for the school team in my age group and I used to play football for Prendergast Villa and Llangwm. I started playing hockey in school and now I play in defence or midfield for Pembrokeshire Hockey’s under 16 team. We train once a week and it means a lot of travel to away games in South and Mid Wales, with a few tournaments recently in Llandeilo.
Sports people I admire locally:
Finley Atyeo and Lee Summons because both are very good sportsmen and enjoy their involvement.
Famous sporting figures like:
Steve Smith (Cricket) – for the way he plays and Tom Brady (American Football) for his success and strong mentality
Ambition:
To become the best player in all sports that I can – and to enjoy being involved!
