Ollie’s on fire in college hockey!

Ollie WheelerPembrokeshire College student Ollie Wheeler, has just been though two trial days for the selection process for GB Colleges Hockey and played so well that he was chosen as the only non-English player in the entire squad!.

In the first trial in Southampton in October there were 75 players from the South and Ollie was put forward for the final trials which were held in Cannock last Friday.

It was a gruelling day with over 40 players from around the UK finally selected to show off their skills and he impressed enough to make the GB Colleges squad for 2018/2019.

Overcoming the odds

It was a terrific performance and his selection is even more pleasing because of the the fact he was the only non-English player chosen amongst a majority of players who attend tradition hockey playing colleges..

To cap his good news Ollie has also been invited to join the Senior Welsh Hockey programme and is also now training with the Under 21 squad.

He is also a very good athlete in the long jump as a major recent success and a more than useful rugby player but both sports have now had to be put on the back burner so that he can fully focus on developing his undoubted skills as a very talented goal scorer and all round player at the top levels of UK hockey!
