Intriguing draw in The Bowl quarter finals
The Executive Committee of the Pembroke County Cricket Club made the draw this week for the quarter-finals of the Harrison-Allen Bowl and it added to the growing interest in what has already happened in this prestigious competition, right from the outset when a number of the ‘big guns’ were drawn together in the opening two rounds.
As a result, this year’s quarter-finals are quite exceptional in the fact that only three of the top ten clubs were involved in this latest draw and two of them face each other so it is a rare certainty that at least TWO of the last four will be from the lower echelons!
Last year’s runners-up Saundersfoot will have home advantage when they entertain Cresselly, who are respectively 3
rd and 2
nd in division one in a tie which could be an epic one because both of hugely talented batting line-ups,; with Neyland (4
th) having the easiest tie on paper because they play host to Stackpole (currently 4
th in division three) - but Neyland’s canny captain Sean Hannon will be making sure there is no over-confidence in the squad because they are in a state of rebuilding and it will be interesting to see who is available for them!
Narberth currently sit atop the second division with an unblemished set of results but Johnston have shot up the table to fifth slot and have Steve Mills (Jnr) back with them and giving the team a real shot in the arm.
And finally, we have Hook (4
th in division two) at home to Sti Ishmaels (2
nd) so these two games could go either way, perhaps depending on a terrific innings or bowling performance, from a number of players involved who have played in division one in recent years!
Full draw:
Hook v St Ishmaels (1
st July)
Narberth v Johnston (1
st July)
Saundersfoot v Cresselly (2
nd July)
Neyland v Stackpole (3
rd July)
Rugby News is back as The KO Cup Draw is announced

Pembrokeshire Rugby might seem a long way off but clubs are announcing their training schedules for 2025/26 and the Pembroke County Rugby committee this week made the draw for The KO Cup for the season, with the seven first-round matches having to be played by the end of September 2025.
Aberystwyth have indicated their wish not to be involved and Tenby United’s second string have been allowed entry because they will be playing in Division Four (West) of the National Leagues – and there are seven matches so the quarter finals will include one bye straight through to the semi-finals.
Another innovation has been brought in after the fiasco last campaign when three clubs who were drawn at home in the quarter-finals withdrew – and to that end each club will now be required to pay a sizeable pre-season bond that will only be lost if they fail to field a team – and the money will go to their opponents.
But this correspondent fervently hopes that every match goes ahead and helps to return the competition it used to be when it was a ‘Blue Riband’ event in the whole sporting character of our county!
Full Draw:
Llangwm v Fishguard & Goodwick
Aberaeron v Neyland
Cardigan v Tenby Seconds
Milford Haven v Haverfordwest
Pembroke Dock Harlequins v Whitland
Teirw Crymych v St Davids
Narberth Athletic v Pembroke
