Monkton Swifts stunned Senior Cup holders Hakin United as they deservedly progressed to the quarter finals thanks to goals from Paul Miller, Jimmy Wilkes and substitute Leon Kitts.
This cup tie was played at the Gelliswick VC School 3G surface as the top two in Division One locked horns in this eagerly awaited cup clash.
Hakin dominated possession early on but could not find a way past Taylor Gullam who had an excellent game and the goalkeeper did well to have kept a clean sheet.
The visitors opened the scoring just before the break as Daniel James’ teasing cross fell to Paul Miller who drilled a low 20 yard shot in the far corner of Rory Williams’ net.
The second period was a cagey affair but the Swifts crucially doubled the lead in 69
th minute as a swift counter attack led to Daniel James’ accurate cross was met by a firm Jimmy Wilkes’ header.
The Swifts soaked up all the Vikings’ pressure before putting the tie beyond doubt as Liam Butland assisted for Leon Kitts to add the crucial third as his side impressively marched into the the last eight.
Both sides observed a minute’s silence before kick-off in memory of loyal Monkton Swifts supporter Charlie Webb, whose presence at Monkton Lane will be sorely missed.

Goodwick cruise past 9-man Bridge

Goodwick United turned up the heat as they impressively put seven-past sorry 9-man Merlins Bridge and progress in the Senior Cup.
This was a disappointing result for Mike Preddy’s Wizards who felt they should have been awarded a penalty as Scott Crawford was felled inside the box but referee Stefan Jenkins waved play on.
On the 30th minute mark the visitors opened the scoring as Rhys Jones played in Will Haworth who slotted his effort between goalkeeper Ben Henton’s legs.
Defender Andrew ‘Kanga’ John brought down Ben Adams inside the box for a stonewall penalty which midfielder Jones made no mistake, within a minute they added a third as Rhys Jones’ cross was met with a neat Ben Adams header as Nigel Delaney’s men led 3-0 at half time.
Substitute Guto Roberts added a the fourth the substitute cut in from the wing and struck an excellent low shot crashing into the net.
The Wizards had a double sending off as Matthew D’Ivry and Nathan Evans both saw red as frustration crept in.
A Tomos Gwilliam own goal brought up the fifth, skipper Scott Delaney added the sixth with a close range tap-in and 16 year old Cade Watts came off the bench as he drilled home the seventh.

Tigers are hit for six by Clarby
Clarbeston Road 6 – Johnston 2

Division One Clarbeston Road proved too strong for Second Division Johnston as they bagged six goals to emphatically move into the Senior Cup quarter finals.
Clarby led 4-0 at the break and added two further goals before the visitors grabbed two late goals to make the final score look a bit more respectable.
Within 25 minutes the hosts led two nothing as Matthew Davies and Jake Wesley both scored.
Just before half time Matthew Ellis headed home a corner for the third and also Travis Jones teed -up Matthew Davies who made no mistake from inside the box for the fourth.
After the break Wesley added Clarby’s fifth before the Tigers pulled one back through skipper Joey George.
Substitute Richard Bevan was on target with the sixth goal thanks to Travis Jones’ third assist of the afternoon.
The Tigers added a late second goal by Ryan Doyle, but on the day The Road were too good for the courageous Tigers.
