Sea Angling News:
The 16th RNLI Annual Fishing Open, organised by members from Pembroke & District Angling Club and Osprey Sea Angling Club, was recently held on Amroth beach in South Pembrokeshire (writes Dr John O’Connor).
The weather was very good indeed for the time of year with attendance at 53, only slightly down on previous years, which included 2 Ladies and 2 juniors, 1 boy and 1 girl. However, in the very flat sea conditions with rollers surging up the beach, very few fish were caught and only 1 Flounder and 1 Dab were weighed in by 2 anglers.
The winning angler, with a nice Flounder of 650gms, was Alison George from Milford Haven, who is a constant supporter of the charity opens, netting her the first prize of £200.
Second, with a dab of 175gms, which allowed him to pick up the runner’s up prize of £100, was Ben Cook, from Pembroke, another regular at these competitions and that was that.
Then there was a Pairs Competition with prizes and as that is basically a side pool then they have to be awarded somehow, so they were drawn out of the proverbial hat! First pair out of the hat were Beverly Brown and Stan Kucyj followed by Ed Pritchard and Andrew Jamieson in second.
Wonderful donation for The RNLI
However, the most important result on the day was that the event raised £916.40 for the lifeboats. In gratitude for this sterling effort we must thank our sponsors, viz, Oriel Johnson, Darren Jones, Mike Rowe of J & M Tackle, Dimond St, Pembroke Dock, Shane Tucker, Andrew Skeels, John O’Connor, Alison George, Leigh Rogers, Chris Wynn, Millforge, Big Brums, Davies Decorators, Tesco, Pembroke Dock, Peter Kraus, Apollo Trampolines, Londis, Pembroke Dock, Mike Watkins, EFSA Wales, Ed Pritchard, Andrew Jamieson, Kirsty Culley together with Ian Wilkinson of the Temple Bar Inn who put his premises and valued support at this event’s disposal and donated the prize for the Stewards raffle which was won by John O’Connor.
Also helping with selling and folding the raffle tickets, very efficiently, were Jennie McIntosh (President) and several of her fellow members of RNLI Saundersfoot branch.
