Haverfordwest Youth put up real battle that was highly praised by coach Steve Parry but although the final margin didn’t really do justice to the Young Blues’ efforts, they could at least take some small comfort from the fact that there were losing to the current Welsh Youth champions and double winners in what has been a superb season overall in league and cup finals.

Hard-running centre Max Fenn grabbed the only try for Haverfordwest as their pack, led by Iori Curtis, Devin Williams, Kieran Harries and Logun Young battled hard, whilst Rio Phillips, Liam Hughes, Charlie Kelly and the rest of their talented back division never stopped looking for openings but didn’t quite have enough possession to mount many sustained attacks.

As Steve Parry said afterwards,

“It was always going to be a tough ask to play after an almost three-week break against a team who have won Welsh Youth Cup & Carmarthenshire league & cup double this season but the boys, despite going 21-0 down early in the game, showed their true character and kept battling for the entire game.
“We had quite a few opportunities to score more points to add to Max’s try but ultimately it wasn’t to be and although the result didn’t go our way it doesn’t detract from what has been an absolutely fantastic season.

“A lot of the boys will now move up to senior rugby and I would like to thank them for the fantastic efforts , along with the younger players , they have put into making this youth team the successful side that it is – and thank my co-coach Andrew Thicker for all his hard work because he has decided to take a deserved rest next season.”

Seasiders play well to pouch the Plate Trophy

Tenby United Youth 29 - Lampeter Youth 22

Tenby United Youth rounded off a terrific season as they followed up their Plate Final success in Pembrokeshire with this excellent victory over a strong Llandeilo side to complete the double.

The Young Seasiders were 10-7 ahead at the break as outstanding flanker Cai Jones grabbed their try to go with the conversion and penalty by centre Rhun Davies – whilst Tenby’s try came from full back Keanu Williams after good work by half backs Alfie Luger, Madoc Evans, who slotted the conversion, Alfie Pryor and Kodi Bratcher.

Fortunes ebbed and flowed after the interval as Lampeter’s flanker Jones grabbed two more tries to complete a deserved hat-trick as he played well alongside Antoni Budylowski and Will Stone, with Rhun Davies adding his second conversion.

For Tenby, there was excellent ball-winning by Ollie Tucker, Cemlyn Bolton, Ricco Hernandez and George Duckett, amongst others, and the pace of Callum Cogger and Tom Youngs out wide was always a factor and full back Williams added a second try alongside others from  Cogger and Lewis Rossiter – and the influential Madoc Evans set the seal on an excellent individual and team performance two more conversions and a penalty to set the seal on a memorable day at Parc y Scarlets for them and their large band of supporters!
