Rees strikes dramatic injury time winner to dump County out of Welsh Cup
FAW Welsh Cup Round 2
Trethomas Bluebirds 2 – Haverfordwest County 1

A dramatic injury time winner scored by Levi Rees secured a massive cup upset for underdogs Trethomas Bluebirds, club based in Caerphilly, stunned ten-man Haverfordwest County at the Centre for Sporting Excellence.
With the score level at 1-1 the third-tier team grabbed the late winner with a sweet left curling left foot strike by Rees, for his second goal of the tie, and there was no way back for the shell-shocked Welsh Premier outfit.
The visitors created a host of chances during the course of the game but come the final whistle Tony Pennock’s County outfit were left to rue those missed opportunities.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 16
th minute when Lee Jenkins’ long ball was glanced on by Elliott Dugan straight into the path of Jack Wilson, the latter raced cleared and tucked the ball past Harry Irving.
In the 29
th minute the hosts levelled matters when Rees headed against the post, but with the second bite of the cherry he finished at the far post.
Matters got worse for the visitors when they were reduced to ten-men as Lee Jenkins was issued a straight red card for taking out the last man.
After the break the visitors continued to press as Irving pulled off a good save to deny County skipper Dylan Rees, Wilson struck side-netting with a header, Ryan George struck a low effort wide.
Idzi produced a smart save to deny Rees, then deep in injury Rees struck a dramatic sublime winner which stemmed from a long throw-in the box.
Haverfordwest County chairman Rob Edwards, tweeted: “Yesterday was lowest I’ve been in 2.5 years
@haverfordwestfc. However, today is a new day. You have to experience the lowest of the lows, to really enjoy and appreciate the highest of the highs, and we will keep working to get there. Fans were amazing yesterday, thank you!”
