The sprint start

Children from eight primary schools in the Tenby area have enjoyed a trip to the beach with a difference as more than 400 children gathered together at South Beach last week to take part in the second Tenby Schools 2K Beach Run, a successful event which as watched by scores of spectators, including tourists and families.      
 
“The run was the perfect opportunity for pupils to get active and make use of the natural beauty in the Tenby area,” said Wyndham Williams of Sport Pembrokeshire, who organised the event with Myrddin Dennis, Pembrokeshire Leisure Beach Warden, and staff from Tenby Leisure centre.
 

College help out and Oliver presents the prizes

 
Pembrokeshire College Army Academy Prep students helped to marshall all runners to the finishing line by running alongside those pupils who needed help and encouragement, and throughout the day there were some impressive times recorded and lots of exciting races within the 12 different events. 
 
Times were recorded for each event with first, second and third prizes awarded on a podium by local triathlon professional Oliver Simons, who also cut the ribbon to open the Run.
 
Activity Wales awarded first place pupils free entry into this year’s TAFF Kids event and their generosity was matched by Oakwood who awarded second place pupils a family ticket to Oakwood Theme Park.

 
Promoting other events

 
The run was an opportunity to help promote to children Pembrokeshire Leisure’s ‘Go Tri’ events starting in July; Activity Wales, Taff Kids race in July; Ironman Kids in September and the Mumford and Runs club at Carew.
