Pembrokeshire 121 for 9 lost to Mid Glamorgan 154 for 6 by 33 runs

Lucas Davies On a beautiful day at Hook CC the Pembrokeshire youngsters were undone by some top quality spin bowling, seeing Mid Glamorgan take the spoils by 33 runs.

Mid Glamorgan choose to bat first leaving Pembrokeshire to field in soaring temperatures. Jake Thomas (1 for 12) gave his team the perfect start with a wicket in the first over, supported by the ever accurate Joe Phillips (1 for 17 in 8 excellent overs). Williamson (26) and Evans (20) then combined in an excellent partnership of 56 in good time. Hamood (24) continued the scoring but despite the heat the Pembrokeshire boys battled their way back into the match.

Jacob Owen (1 for 11), Dom Asson (1 for 8) and especially Rhys Power (2 for 6) dragged the scoring back below 4 runs per over with some sustained accuracy. Jacob Owen took over behind the wicket and took an excellent low catch to see Mid Glamorgan slip to 109 for 6. But Humphries (35 not out) batted really well at the death to see his side set a competitive total.

After tea Owen Phelps (20) and Lewis Miller (16) steadily built a solid foundation for the run chase. These two put on 39 for the first wicket before Phelps was clean bowled. A terrific five over spell from the bowlers effectively saw Pembrokeshire lose any chance of a victory as they lurched from 39 for 0 to 49 for 6.

Joe PhillipsSpinners Fulker (2 for 26) and Parker (3 for 3) caused a period of chaos which saw the middle order of Harry Fuller, Owen, Seth Willington and Shay Norcross dismissed without troubling the scorers.

But this brought Lucas Davies (33) and Dom Asson (19) together. These two batted really well in a partnership of 55. Davies played patiently to build an excellent innings and restore some pride to the scoreboard. Asson too looked really positive with some well-timed shots. But try as they might these two could not keep up with an ever rising required run rate. Rhys Power (12 not out) played a smart cameo at the death to help his team reach a respectable 121 for 9.

Ultimately this was a disappointing result for Pembrokeshire having been in a relatively strong position. But the team showed great spirit not to fold thanks particularly to the batting of Davies and Asson. This season has seen some excellent batting, bowling and fielding displays. It remains now for the team to put all these elements together which will surely bring success.
