JIMMY ALLEN First Division Cup Final Report

LLOYD GAINS VICTORY FOR THE WATERLOO C

A commanding victory by former county champion John Lloyd in the first frame ensured the Waterloo Club C victory in the Jimmy Allen Cup final on Monday night.

Playing an out-of-touch John Smith (Balfour A), Lloyd chipped in early on with an excellent 41 break and went on to a convincing 70-odd point victory.

The second frame between Brett John and Dan Bevan (Waterloo) and Simon Pearce and Ray Hoare was a bit closer, before a nice 29 break by Brett opened up a lead and led to the Waterloo to another victory.

In the second doubles Simon Bourne and Layton Nolan (Waterloo) were up against Terry McBride and John Butterworth. In a close frame the Waterloo enjoyed the rub of the green, but Layton had a good break of 26 and again the Waterloo won by 30-odd points.

With the Waterloo having a comfortable 100-odd point lead, the last frame between Paul White (Waterloo) and Anthony Griffiths was a formality. Chalkie hit a rich vein of form and had a few reasonable sized breaks, 39 being the highest. He kept the pressure on Anthony and secured a very comfortable victory for the Waterloo C.

A big thank you to the Waterloo for hosting the final and for the food. Defan Hughes and Keri Hughes refereed and presented the trophies.

DT PEARCE 2nd Division Cup Final Report

JASON STARS IN MANCH CUP VICTORY

An outstanding display of potting from Jason Hackett ensured the Manchester Club B were victorious at the DT Pearce final on Monday night. Playing the Balfour B on their home table, Jason went about the task with class, scoring at nearly every visit to the table and won with ease by 77 points .

There was nothing his opponent Denzil Davies (Balfour B) could do about it, and he just had to sit it out and watch Jason pile on the points. It all started brightly for the Balfour when Steven Harries and Ian Ashworth got the best of Marcus Greenish and Phil Whisby.

The points situation went one way and then the other but with some telling snookers the Balfour pair got the advantage. Then Steve potted most of the high scoring colours to give the pair a 29-point victory. In the second singles frame between Steve Goodger (Manch) and Peter Thomas the lead yo-yod from one player to the other for all of the game.

One minute Peter was 20-odd points up and the next Steve was 20-odd points up until finally Steve potted the pink and black to win by 9. With the Manch leading by 47 points there was a huge mountain to climb for Andy Roach and Mickey Davies. Evergreen Mackie King and Lee Boswell didn't give them a chance and ran out easy winners.
