Pembrokeshire Schools' side narrowly misses title despite super season

The Pembrokeshire Schools' under 14s team took the title race to the final game of the season before a 3-1 defeat to Swansea Schools' confined them to second place.

In what proved a superb season, the side missed out on top spot despite the finale at Ysgol Harri Tudur being their only defeat of the campaign, with Swansea instead going through to the Welsh Schools' Football Association play-offs with other league winners from across the country.

Matthew Price, who coaches the side along with Ben Field-Thomas and Rhys Holmes, explained: "Swansea lost one game also but they won all of the rest.

"We drew two games so that is why they ended up with more points than us - the standard is that high! In fact, it was possible that we could have gone the whole season undefeated and still not won the League."

However, the season is far from over for the squad. In May, they head to Stoke City's Bet365 Stadium, where they will participate in a high-calibre squad tournament.

It won't be the first time the team has graced a former Premier League stadium, winning the Ipswich Towm Play on the Pitch Tournament at Portman Road last year.
