Seniors struggle against The Doves

Cresselly (142 for 4) beat Pembs Seniors (52 for 5) by 90 runs

Pembrokeshire Seniors made a good start against Cresselly as they shot out talented Cresselly youngsters Griff Jenkins and Milo Jones cheaply before Ollie Rowlands steadied the innings and dad Tom and Lewis Jones really raised the tempo alongside last man George Davies.

All three reached the retirement ceiling before Jones eventually fell to Nick Daley for 44, the others respectively unbeaten on 37 and 32 in a huge total, considering their poor start, of 142 for 6, with Kevin Bowen (2) and Alan Webster the other Seniors’
 wicket takers.

The Old Timers clearly had a hill to climb as Webster, Bowen, Daley and Andrew Williams came and went quickly to make it a trip to the top of Snowden for David Hanes, who huffed and puffed his way to their top score and Gregg Miller, who was still there at the end.

George Davies rounded off a good performance with two wickets, assisted by an excellent brace for Rowlands Snr on a great start for The Doves potent mix of youth and experience.

Pembroke bowlers put The Town under real pressure

Haverfordwest (48 all out) lost to Pembroke (49 for 2) by 4 wickets

Pembroke have one of the better bowling attacks in the county, as Haverfordwest found to their cost when they batted first and were shot out for only 46 runs from only 8.5 of their allotted 12 overs.

Leading the way was youngster Jay Sutherland, who removed the Town’s top scorers in Rhys Sewell and Jac Peters after Jason Stobbs was run out without even facing a ball as the first to depart when he risked a single and was run out.

Pete Soulsby followed soon afterward as he suffered the same fate against really tight bowling by Krunal Patel and Jack Harries, whose combined four overs conceded only 17 runs.

Pembroke then started well as Sutherland and keeper Luke Butler took the score to 39 before Butler was joined by A Ahmadi in getting out before Harries helped Sutherland see Pembroke home in only 8.4 overs.

Haverfordwest Batting:
Rhys Sewell 20, Jac Peters 13
Pembroke Bowling:
Jay Sutherland 2-24, Jack Harries 1-6, Krunal Patell 0-7, Callum Davies 0-10
Pembroke Batting:
Jay Sutherland 13*. Luke Butler 18
Haverfordwest Bowling:
Chris Jackson 1-12

Hook batters disappoint against revamped Neyland

Hook  (67 all out) lost to Neyland (68 for 1) by 5 wickets

On paper, Hook have a very strong batting line-up but they fell well below their normal standard when they batted first and lost  George James, Rhys and Owen Phillips for a combined tally of nine runs and only Lewis looked settled until his second stint at the crease and he was run out.

Seth Willington and Bradley Flood then got started and got out  so that Hook had to settle for only 67  runs, which included 13 extras, with JackJohn and skipper Sean Hannon bowling tight spells, followed by two wickets for Brad McDermott-Jenkins. And another from Korey Riley.

Hook’s hopes were momentarily raised as Jack John was bowled by Lewis Miller in Neyland’s first over but then McDermott-Jenkins and Dai Davies, who have many years at the top of local indoor cricket, reached the retirement requirement before long-serving skipper Sean Hannon and Riley saw them home with nine balls to spare.

*Neyland’s talented young keeper Dylan James sadly sustained a head injury which needed a precautionary visit to hospital but everyone involved in indoor cricket will wish the popular sporting all-rounder a speedy return to the game and Neyland Football Club.

Hook Batting:
Liam Miller 28, Extras 13
Neyland Bowling:
Brad McDermott-Jenkins 2-11, Korey Riley 1-34, Sean Hannon 0-8
Neyland Batting:
Brad McDermott-Jenkins 28*, Dai Davies 26*
Hook Bowling:
Lewis Miller 1-7
