Pembroke Amateur Boxing Club has rightly been regarded over many years as a club which produces young boxers of a high standard and if the start of the new season is anything to go by then coaches Nathan Probert and Andy Edmondson have another hugely talented group.
Debut bouts a huge success
Arron Christopher is the youngest carded talent in the club but he showed great maturity in beating his opponent Joe Anthony from Towy ABC unanimously, showing his fitness and boxing skills on this show at Pontyates, near Llanelli. Arron is certainly an up and coming talent for the future and one to watch.
Later in the evening, on the same show, Lee Duignan had his debut bout against Sylwek Orbanski from Trostre ABC and after a naturally nervous start began to show his skills. In the third round, after a close contest, Lee caught his opponent with a sharp right hand in the closing minute that knocked his opponent out, giving Lee a great start to his first boxing season.
William Price boxed Ryan Walters from A & A ABC in Mountain Ash, William winning well as he took control from the first bell and keeping on top throughout showing his confidence and experience with tremendous class. William will be entering his first junior championships in April and if he can maintain his current form should do really well.
James jolts European champ
James Probert had his first fight back this season on the Prince of Wales show in Caldicot, in front of a big crowd which had come to watch undefeated English International and European gold medallist Aadam Hussain (Pinewood ABC, Reading) take on James as the two European medal holders came face to face.
From the very start of the contest James showed his determination and skill taking each round to the next level, beating Aadam on a split decision, an amazing achievement considering he was boxing away from home against such a powerful opponent whose 100% record had given him 24 wins on the trot before this first defeat.
James will be entering the junior championships in April and will be continuing with his squad training in Cardiff and Swansea, as well as maintaining his hard work at Pembroke BC headquarters.
Small wonder then that the coaches and members of Pembroke Amateur Boxing Club are eagerly anticipating another great season where they will be flying the Pembrokeshire Amateur Boxing Flag with distinction.
