Martin and Celt 'Get on their bikes' for worthy cause

Martin and Celt Edwards set off from their home village of Blaenffos

Martin Edwards and son Celt are ultra-keen sports players and supporters but have also spent time recently literally ‘getting on their bikes’ to raise a substantial sum to be shared between Picton Ward at Glangwili Hospital, the Special baby Care Unit, Neonatal Care.

Martin, who is a physical education teacher at Milford Haven School, said: “We as a family were devastated when my wife Caryl had a miscarriage in March.

“We would like to thank family and friends for their support and say thank you for the care received at Glangwili Hospital, and that is why we decided to take up this challenge.

Massive challenge for Martin – supported all the way by son Celt

Celt with mum Caryl, a beauty therapist at Cardigan CollegeMartin cycled 100 miles a day from 18th to 24th July whilst Celt gave fantastic support by cycling a total of 100 miles in the same time and the father and son duo have so far raised over £3,000, which will be shared between Glangwili Hospital’s Picton ward, the Special Care Baby Unit and Neonatal Care.

Martin, who plays rugby for Crymych and has previously played junior rugby at Narberth and with Cardigan said: “We as a family were devastated when my wife Caryl had a miscarriage in March.

“We would like to thank family and friends for their support and say thank you for the care received at Glangwili Hospital, and that is why we decided to take up this challenge.

Family pride in all-round sportsman Celt . . .

“We are so proud of Celt who has completed a very tough challenge for a nine-year-old. He is truly amazing, but this is also one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever done too!”

Celt is certainly no stranger to sport since he plays rugby for Crymych in his age group, and football for Boncath and Pembrokeshire Schools - and last year won the prestigious ‘Chairman’s Special Award’ at the Sport Pembrokeshire Awards for some earlier superb fund-raising.

The pair are also raising funds for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at Glangwili in support of their niece and cousin.

““The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive,” said Nicola.
