B36 Tórshavn 2  – Haverfordwest County 1

 
Haverfordwest County put in another excellent spirited performance as they narrowly lost against B36 Tórshavn at the Gundadalur Stadium, Faroe Islands on Thursday evening.
 
The Bluebirds set up this tie after a thrilling maiden history making European win on penalties last week against Shkendija, a professional club from North Macedonia at the Cardiff City Stadium.
 
Fully professional outfit B36 Torshavn are 11-times Faroese league champions and European regulars, so proved another stiff challenge for the battling Pembrokeshire part-timers.
 
The Scandinavians got an early breakthrough when Andrass Johansen squared the ball Hanne Agnarsson inside the box, the latter clinically finished low past keeper Zac Jones.
 
Two minutes before half time Zac Whitmore gave away a soft free kick in a dangerous area which Benjamin Heinesen curled past Jones’ right hand post as the score remained 1-0 to the hosts at the interval.
 
Jack Wilson replaced Jazz Richards at the break, the Bluebirds’ skipper picked up an injury, hopefully he will be available for the home leg
 
On the hour mark Tórshavn doubled the lead as Bjarki Neilson made excellent ground down the right before he intelligently cut back an inviting ball to Andrass Johansen who made no mistake from inside the box.
 
Ten minutes from full time the visitors pulled a goal back when Watts played wide to Wilson, the substitute’s dangerous cross came off a defender but fell to Martell Tayor-Crossdale wasted no time as he lashed the ball into the back of the net for his first goal for the Bluebirds.
 
Full credit to Tony Pennock’s men they battled all night, despite being two goals behind they managed to courageously pull one back which has very much kept this tie alive going into the second leg at the Cardiff City Stadium next Thursday, 3^rd August.
