Moving moment at Phoenix Park in memory of 'Carrot'

Anthony Carrot Sinnott presentation

There was a very moving moment prior to Goodwick United’s home game against St Clears when the Sinnott family made a generous gesture in presenting a sizeable sum of money to Goodwick’s junior section in memory of a former player in Anthony ‘Carrot’ Sinnott, who had died far too soon and will be missed as someone who showed total commitment to the club’s cause, on and off the field.

It was never more in evidence then the 1987/88 season when ‘Carrot’ was part of the team that beat Milford Athletic in the Senior Cup Final and he played really well.

The teams had originally met at Marble Hall, Milford Haven, and drew 1-1 as Michael Jones scored a penalty for The Athletic and Stuart Wilson did the same for Goodwick – and in the replay at London Road, Pembroke Dock the Phoenix Park Boys prevailed 2-0 thanks to goals by Wilson and Steve Summers.

Making the presentation was ‘Carrot’s’ wife Alison and as well as a large number of members from his family, including his uncle Pat O’Brien;  Brian Morris, the club chairman, was there to receive the cheque after he had done his usual excellent job in welcoming everyone.

He told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk how grateful the club was for such a generous sum which showed the family’s commitment to Goodwick United and would be of immense benefit to the junior section.
