Neil Mitchell grabbed a brace to help Newtown secure top spot in the Welsh Premier table as the Bluebirds already uncomfortably sit at the bottom - suffering their second defeat on the bounce.

The visitors trailed one-nothing at half time and conceded two late goals as the Robins ran out clear winners to secure their second win in a row.

Unstoppable volley

Mitchell opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an unstoppable edge of the area sweetly struck half volley.

Manager Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds outfit pressed early in the second half in search of an equaliser, incredibly both sides had shots cleared off the line, striker Jordan Follows also struck a curling shot into the side netting, that was the closest the visitors came to scoring as they still frustratingly await their first goal playing at this top level.

Point blank save

Bluebirds goalkeeper Scott James pulled off a save from Jason Oswell from point blank range, but the Robins finally extended their lead in the 83rd minute as Mitchell scrambled home his second of the match, then just two minutes later, Oswell added a third to secure the precious points.

This result was a harsh reminder to Wayne Jones’ team that life in the Welsh Premier is going to be tough, but having played two of the top teams maybe they can start picking up some points in their next batch of fixtures.
