The 7th Felinfoel Brewery Double Dragon RNLI Annual Fishing Open, organised by members of the Pembroke & District Angling Club, Osprey Sea Angling Club, Neyland Sea Angling Club and West Wales Match Anglers, was held recently on Amroth beach in South Pembrokeshire.
Unlike the recent Air Ambulance Open there were far fewer fish as this time only nine out of the 68 anglers that fished, which included three ladies and four, managed to weigh in only 11 sizeable fish as compared to two weeks earlier when 38 anglers weighed in 108 fish.
The weather and conditions were very much poorer, for the anglers, this time, as it was between two great storms with very strong winds. However, they did abate prior to the match, bringing conditions at low water to at least what was safe to fish.
Milford scoop the lot!
The winning angler, who managed to land two flounder for 1Kg 20gms was Milford Haven angler Dai Etherington, netting him the first prize of £250. He also had the biggest flounder at a very respectable 730gms so he also took the pool of £68.
In second was another Milford Haven Rod, Matthew Roberts, who was narrowly beaten by 10gms in landing two flounder for 1Kg 10gms, allowing him to pick up a prize of £50.
In third place was yet another from Milford Haven in Dan Flynn, who had a flounder of 535gms, winning him £25.
The pair’s competition was won by Dai and his partner Roly Adams, again Milford, with three flounder for 1Kg 355gms, picking up £80, with Dan and his partner Luke Rees, Milford Haven yet again, second with two flounder for 980gms earning them £40
Wonderful sum raised for RNLI
However, the most important result on the day was that the event will have raised over £1000 for the Angle & Tenby lifeboats. Thanks must go to the competition’s main sponsor, Felinfoel Brewery, along with their rep Jamie Owen for continuing to sponsor this event. Congratulations also to the anglers from the organising clubs, together with Roger Harris of the Amroth Arms who always puts his premises and valued support at this event’s disposal, together with Peter Kraus and Pam from the Tenby Lifeboat support group who ran the raffle.
Thanks for generosity
Finally, we must again thank all the kind and generous sponsors of the event, who donated cash, made collections and donated prizes for the mega raffle which ensured continuation of the event’s great success. These were: Shane Tucker, Roger Harries (Amroth Arms), John O’Connor, Haven Angling Group, Neyland Angling Club, Leigh Rogers, Robbie Scale, Rhyal Engineering, James Lemon of Awesome Fishing, Chris Wynn, Dai Etherington, Andy Luxford, Adlington Welding, Simon Safety, Glamal Engineering, Howells Welding (Pendine) and Graham Roberts of Roberts Rambles for the photography which can be seen at
