Cardies ease through in a ‘cracking contest’
Cardigan 35 - Milford Haven 27
Both sets of supporters agreed that this was a ‘cracking contest’ as their players produced 80 minutes of entertaining rugby where the lead changed hands several times, with total commitment, high skill levels, four tries apiece and the result in doubt until The Mariners conceded three late penalties, all for technical offences, to settle the verdict in The Teifisiders’ favour.
Dynamic flanker Connor Owen opened the scoring for Cardigan before Milford Haven responded with a James Trueman penalty and then the conversion of a good try by winger Ieuan Davies, switched from flanker to fill a gap in the Mariners’ defence so that Trueman could move to scrum half, where he linked well with Efan Morgan.
The Teifisiders regained the initiative as centre Emyr Harries rounded off some quick hands by Ifan James and Sam Lloyd to score a try converted by Llyr Jones.
Trueman then claimed arguably the try of the match as influential full back Robbie Jones, who looked a threat whenever he had the ball in hand, sliced 50 yards through the middle and was unlucky to be felled by a despairing ankle tap - but was able to off-load to the lurking Truman, who sped to the posts and added the extra points.
As the action continued apace, Cardigan went into the lead by 21-17 at half time thanks to a try by No 10 Jac Davies and another Llyr Jones conversion.
Equally exciting second half
In an equally exciting second periods The Mariners grabbed two further tries by Ethan Morgan and Jack Tucker, playing on permit from Whitland, to ensure a deserved bonus point, with Aaron Mayne and Ethan Aldred and Arron Davies putting in a real shift, but a fourth
Cardigan try, by centre Joe Thomas saw Cardigan haul themselves back to a 26-27 deficit with minutes to go.
And that is where Llyr Jones’ kicking ability came to the fore as the home No 15 landed three penalties and although The Mariners kept plugging away, with Zac Davies, Sam Phillips, Josh Palmer, and especially brother Jordan to the fore, were unable to add any further scores.
For Cardigan, Guto Davies was adjudged man of the match for his back-row play alongside Owen and skipper Marcus Castle and there was also some yeoman work by Owen Fletcher and Flynn Tjoonk as The Teifisiders pouched a maximum five points for their efforts.

Crymych struggle in final stages
Crymych 10 - Aberystwyth 61

Aberystwyth a runaway win on Tuesday evening at Parc Lloyd Thomas but as has happened so many times this season, Crymych were very much in the hunt at half time as they trailed by 19-10 but conceded an unanswered 32 points after the interval as their mix of experience and youngsters just starting out from youth rugby found it hard going.
One such player was youth team scrum half Daf Bryan, who linked well with skipper Daf Phillips, who switched again to No 10, and slotted a try by Llyr Davies as reward for some real back-row graft alongside Osian Thomas and Tom Taylor.
There was no shortage of effort from the Crymych pack but the pressure told after the interval as Osian Jones and Dylan Benjamin, who scored a try and added eight conversions from his No 9 berth.
Other tries were scored by Carwyn Evans (2), Jac Jones, Sion Evans, Llywelyn Evans, Lewis Ellis Jones and Charles Thomas (2) and The Preseli Men will surely be glad to see the season’s end before a chance to regroup and be back doing well again in Division One (West).
Crymych: Ifan Wyn Jones: Jac Griffiths; Aled Lewis; Brad Cramb; Sion Evans: Daf Phillips (Capt); Daf Bryan: Harri Vaughan; Lee Griffiths; Ben Cox: Luke Freebury; Tom Tagg: Osian Thomas: Llyr Davies; Tom Taylor. Replacements: Osian Charles; Osian Davies; Delme Alleyne; Deiniol Mathias; Taran Morgan-Davies.
Aberystwyth: Tommy Sandford: Ben Jones; Jac Jones; Carwyn Evans; Dafydd Llyr Howells: Osian Jones; Dylan Benjamin: Rhodri Evans; Ryan Mackie; Ioan Lewis: Llywelyn Evans; Osian James: Bryan Shepherd; Sion Evans; Lee Truck.
Replacements: Osian Bebb-Worrall; Dylan Jones; Lewis Ellis-Jones; Lloyd Ellis-Jones; Charles Thomas.

Division One (West):
Seasiders strong in second half
Tenby United 47- Kidwelly 19

Tenby United completed a high-scoring double over already relegated Kidwelly, who have won only one of their 18 league games and had already lost 47-0 at home to The Seasiders - but it looked as if they were in with a chance at half time as the score stood at 12-all.
But whatever Seasiders’ coach Jonathan Evans said it certainly worked because his team might have conceded a third try but they ran in five more of their own to confirm their second spot, but with Burry Port also gaining a bonus-point success their hopes of promotion are now all but gone.
Tenby started well enough as human battering ram Liam Price ploughed through the middle to open their account and Dan Colley claimed his hat-trick with another try before Geraint Jones added a conversion - but Kidwelly responded with tries by Morgan Sadler and Ioan Dillon, one converted by Freddie Price to claw their way back.
But with Price, Geraint Jones and Gwion Jones, playing at No 10 and looking sharp in conjunction with Fletcher Broadhurst, catching the eye and flanker Josh Hamer again leading the way, as he has done in every game since joining from Narberth, it meant that The Seasiders were soon well out of reach, despite a Kidwelly converted try by Dale Ford.
Colley was perfectly placed to score his second, with Gwion Jones adding a brace and others coming from lively prop Jack Davies and second row Max Brindley. Gwion Jones added all five conversions to confirm Tenby United’s superiority - but they will need to make a better start at home to St Clears and then a final tussle away against champions-elect Burry Port!
Tenby United: Geraint Jones: Jordan Asparassa; Jackson Gravatt; Liam Price; Matthew Lewis: Gwion Jones; Fletcher Broadhurst: Jack Brown; Iwan Duffy; Dom Booth: Luke Dedman; Max Brindley: Josh Hamer; Jesse Jones; Dan Colley (Capt).
Replacements: Jack Davies; Ethan Morgan; Dom Colman; Dai Jones; Connor Keir; Alfie Pryor.
