All Blacks retain Sutton Cup

Llangwm 7 - Neyland 41

Neyland retained the Sutton Cup in their annual matches against Llangwm as they followed up their 25-5 home victory with this more comprehensive success at Pill Parks in front of a large and partisan crowd.

The trophy was presented in honour of Paul Sutton, who died too early and was a popular member of sport in Neyland – so it was appropriate that his nephew, Ashley Sutton,  played for The All Blacks and scored their first two tries, one converted by Ollie Rothero.

The Wasps hit back with a close-range try by prop Matthew Rees, converted by Dylan Philpott, but further tries from prop Luke Griffiths-Dawes and centre Adam Peete, converted by Rothero, put Neyland 24-7 ahead at half time.

The All Blacks defended well after the break and added further tries by wingers Ben Milward and Henry Macbeth, who rounded off a great handling move from his own half, and a second from Griffiths-Dawes, converted by George Evans.

Laugharne 23 - Laugharne 15

Haverfordwest made the journey to Laugharne with a number of regulars absent through illness or work commitments and paid the price with a disappointing defeat and the conceding of the double since they recently lost 18-41 at Merlins Bridge.

This deserved victory saw Laugharne stay in third place, with 15 wins from their 19 matches – and with The Blues having now suffered seven losses from their 18 starts and remaining in fifth spot, 23 points behind leaders St Clears.
