Top three teams all win well
Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Chris Stapleton
Scorers: Rachel Sander, Kacey Arran & Peter Kingdom
Venue: Neyland Hub Community Centre
Match One: Llanrhian (94 for 4) beat Pembroke Dock B (47 all out)
Llanrhian maintained their thrust for a place in the play-offs at the end of the season with this comfortable win over Pembroke Dock but the game was marred by a nasty injury to talented young Dock player Owen Hughes as he tried to turn sharply in search of a run and damaged his knee.
Owen Hughes
had bowled really well when Llanrhian batted first, shifting Daf Williams, who has scored the most runs in the competition this season but having his off bail neatly removed when he had scored six runs – and also clean bowled Tom Clarke (21) with another beauty that gave him fine figures of 2 for 17.
Jon Strawbridge (9) was run out but Iwan James steadied the innings with 35 not out from his two visits, including five threes and two fours, and although Karl Davies (6) went cheaply Llion Williams was not out 13 alongside James as Llanrhian posted a good total of 94 for 4.
The Dock got off to a great start as Anton John and Adam Phillips scored three runs from every ball in Daf Williams’ first over but were never able to build a settled partnership from then on as Phillips (12) managed double figures but joined (9) in being caught by Llion Williams to give Jon Strawbridge an excellent 2 for 11 spell in his two overs.
Nick Daley (7) and Peter Kingdom (6) joined Owen Hughes in being run out and Rob Hearn (7) was last out, bowled by Daf Williams as The Dock were dismissed from only 6.2 overs.
Match Two - Pembroke Dock A (106 for 1) beat Neyland B (99 for 5)
Pembroke Dock A put their experience to good effect in an entertaining tussle against Neyland B as everyone contributed to their 106 for 1 wicket and then they kept their heads in the field as their opponents put them under pressure and looked like they might challenge their three-figure score.
Tom Grimwood batted sensibly for his 25 before retiring and was joined by Scott Griffiths (24 not out), Rhys Daley (retired on 25) and George Smith (12 not out) so that only Neil Gregory (10) was out, caught by Rod Murphy off the bowling of Kieran Arran, and old warhorse Glyn Griffiths remained in the hutch as he kept wicket and didn’t have to show if he still had his batting skills.
Tom Pritchard (0 for 13) and George Evans (2 for 12) joined Arran (1 for 11) as Rod Murphy and Sam Laugharne were more expensive, the latter being despatched by Smith for consecutive boundaries off the final three balls of The Dock’s allotted ten overs.
Neyland B were up with the clock at the half-way mark in their innings with 53 runs on the board, with Laugharne (12) run out and Gregg Miller (4) giving a soft catch to keeper Griffiths off his son Scott’s bowling – but with George Evans and Arran going well.
Evans had to retire on 25 and Murphy and Pritchard were run out without a run between before he and Arran returned to the fray late on.
Evans looked particularly strong but Arran was run out for 28 and Gregory bowled the final over for just six runs, leaving Evans on 44 not out and giving The Dock A victory by seven runs.
Match Three – Haverfordwest (25 all out) lost to Neyland A (31 for 0)

Neyland A again showed their indoor cricket pedigree with this crushing win over Haverfordwest in what is believed to be perhaps the quickest finish ever.
Haverfordwest batted first and were shot out for 25 in only 5.3 overs and Neyland reached their target off the first ball of the third over as Brad McDermott-Jenkins rasped a straight six of Dan Hopley’s only delivery.
In the first over of the game by Joe John, Hopley had been run out without scoring after quick thinking by Patrick Hannon, and Peter Soulsby was bowled with a single to his name.
John finished with 2 for 7 in his two overs as he also bowled Jason Stobbs, top scorer with eight runs - and Ross Hardy was equally effective with only nine runs from his similarly tight spell.
And then Patrick Hannon showed he is more than just the excellent tournament organiser as he steamed in for nine balls from which he claimed 3 for 8 as he bowled Jack Peters (3), Ashley James (3) and had Will Phillips (0), well caught by Jack John.
Then Patrick Bellerby and Brad McDermott-Jenkins took 15 runs off Will Phillips’ over and skipper Ashley James was despatched for 10 runs as Bellerby finished on 9 not out and McDermott-Jenkins scored 15 not , including that six hit to end the game in style!
